When I came to Substack, having been on other parts of the internet, I didn’t have much faith in it being any different. But I feel the major difference, for me at least, has been seeing how supportive many people are. Like genuinely supportive. There are a few people I’m thinking of who write long thoughtful comments on everything I post and, even now, I’m still so surprised that they do. Because I genuinely enjoy their writing and the connection we’ve fostered, I do my best to write thoughtful responses to what they write as well. And I’ve found that supporting them feels better, realer, richer, deeper (I’m unsure if the right word) than receiving their support.
All of which is to say, to your piece resonated.
I’m also super excited to about your writing tool! It’s so awesome that you know what you want to do and that you’re committing yourself to it. Few people even get that far. Good luck, friend :)
This is very poignant. I think it’s so important to be a passionate cheerleader of the things you love! I try to lend my joyful support to all my friends in their various pursuits. I am reminded of the saying I’ve seen somewhere on the internet ‘everyone wants a community, no one wants to be a community member’. So i try to be that, because i want that too.
Love as attention is beautiful and resonates with me. So does the Michelanglo effect. I believe that too love and be loved is to remake ourselves and others. To treat it like the most sacred art work ever.
